Modelling and Simulation of engineering systems Essay

Modelling and Simulation of engineering systems - Essay Example The main advantage of SIMULINK over other programming softwares is that, instead of compilation of program code, the simulation model is built up systematically by means of basic function blocks. Through a convenient graphical user interface (GUI), the function blocks can be created, linked and edited easily using menu commands, the keyboard and an appropriate pointing device (such as the mouse). A set of machine differential equations can thus be modelled by interconnection of appropriate function blocks, each of which performing a specific mathematical operation. Programming efforts are drastically reduced and the debugging of errors is easy. Since SIMULINK is a model operation programmer, the simulation model can be easily developed by addition of new sub-models to cater for various control functions. As a sub-model the induction motor could be incorporated in a complete electric motor drive system (Wade 495-505; Shi 231-235). A generalized dynamic model of the induction motor consists of an electrical sub-model to implement the three-phase to two-axis transformation of stator voltage and current calculation, a torque sub-model to calculate the developed electromagnetic torque, and a mechanical sub-model to yield the rotor speed. In addition, a stator current output sub-model is needed for calculating the voltage drop across the supply cables. Multiple line equation(s) cannot be represented in ASCII text... ASCII text where Vas, Vbs, and Vcs are the three-phase stator voltages, while Vds and Vqs are the two-axis components of the stator voltage vector Vs. Torque sub-model of induction motor In the two-axis stator reference frame, the electromagnetic T is given by:T = PLm/3(idriqs - iqrids) Mechanical sub-model of induction motor From the torque balance equations and neglecting viscous friction, the rotor speed omega0 may be obtained as follows: Multiple line equation(s) cannot be represented in ASCII text where J is the moment of inertia of the rotor and load and TL is the load torque. Stator current output sub-model The stator current output sub-model is used to calculate the stator current amplitude according to the following equation:|is| = 2/3 square root of (ie, sub ds)2 + (ie, sub qs)2 A SIMULINK Fcn' block is used to implement the above equation. Simulation System Of Induction Motor The complete simulation system of the induction motor includes the induction motor model in a power supply sub-model. Power supply sub-model The voltage supply block consists of a three-phase sinusoidal voltage generator and a terminal-voltage calculation block which accounts for the voltage drop in the supply cable. Simulation Results The induction motor chosen for the simulation studies has the following parameters: Type: three-phase, 7.5 kW, 6-pole, wye-connected, squirrel-cage induction motorRs = 0.288 OMEGA/ph Rr = 0.158 OMEGA/ph Ls = 0.0425 OMEGA/ph Lm = 0.0412 OMEGA/ph Lr = 0.0418 OMEGA/ph J = 0.4 kg m2 JL = 0.4 kg m2 To illustrate the transient operation of the induction motor, a simulation study of direct-on-line starting is demonstrated. At t = 0, the motor, previously

Business law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Business law - Essay Example The claims to be made in the paper will be proved with the help of legal cases which have been solved by applying the legal approaches of Parole evident rule and collateral contract. Introduction: Business dealings are made among enterprises by large each day which makes it evident that there needs to be a jurisdiction that would help the parties agree and abide by the clauses in the agreement. It is for this reason that business law is being practiced by the common law. In return common law is being applied to majority of the states making it liable for organizations all around the world to sign agreements and follow the legalities. Considering the legal courts of Australia, It would not be incorrect to state that it has provided the business enterprises many benefits regarding restitution and contracts. However, there are different types of contracts with exceptions which are being practiced and legally prosecuted. In this context, the written contracts in Australia are provided wi th a lot of remedies in case the contract is breached. But verbal promises that have not been included in the written contracts are not solved in case breached. ... Definitions to the terms: Breach--violation of the law which is written or oral in nature. Plaintiff-- a person or a party that would file a lawsuit against the violating party Defendant--- a person or a party against whom the case is filed. Points of Focus: Parole evident rule and exception followed by the suitable cases Collateral contracts and definition with the suitable cases Australian Courts and Remedy to breach of Parole evidence rule: It is an Australian law which is applied in case it is a matter of a written contract. Within the approach of parole evidence rule, it is evident that the court will note that all the clauses which are written or mentioned in the agreement are carefully following the signed affirmation of both the parties. This approach completely denies in case either of the party proposes a claim which is verbal in nature. The Australian court represents jurisdiction that completely disqualifies any verbal or oral promise making it much easier for the parties and the court to subject litigation if notice in any case1 The reason behind employing this legal approach in Australia for the business agreements is merely because it is able to save a lot of time. Another reason behind setting up the approach of parole evidence rule exemplifies the prevention of any faulty statement coming from either of the parties agreed upon the agreements. There has been a common ground of deviation noted in most of the legal business cases. All such cases have marked statements which were put forward by the parties in order to bring deviation the focal point of the agreement. In other words, it could be said that at times either of the parties is more likely to override

Diagnosis of knee joint problem in MRI Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Diagnosis of knee joint problem in MRI - Essay Example Though this reason is enough to forego this important technological advancement, the question is what do other authors make of these findings? Logical enough, many studies have been carried out in this field and a great deal of views offered in respect to the importance and the flaws associated with this phenomenon. A critical evaluation of a few of the studies will eventually reveal what is the best way to go about the examination of the knee and which method is best when it comes to the different possibilities of knee infections and examinations. This will be based upon the consistency of the results, the methodologies applied therein and the value and cost-effectiveness of the processes in light of the clinical decisions for knee treatment (Cottrell, 2005). ‘The Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the Evaluation of Acute Posterolateral complex Injuries of the Knee’ authored by Ross et al (1997) is a study that was carried out to determine the effectiveness of the MRI in the diagnosis and possible treatment of knee injuries. The only way that MRI can assist in the treatment is by making the process of decision making easier and offering the best way out to the clinician or surgeon. The team opted to use the standard magnetic resonance imaging sequences in their study to check on the acute posterolateral knee trauma. They conducted their study on six patients who were seen within 72 hours of their initial injuries. The patients had their clinical histories and examinations consistent with the probable complex posterolateral injury using the 1.5T magnet. They compared results using the clinical examinations and varied the different views of the flexion, tenderness and through the gradual yet recorded increase in the thigh-foot ang le (McGinty, 1988: Ireland, 1980: Insall, 1984). ‘A prospective arthroscopically controlled

The Creative Class; Importance of Economic Development and Planning Research Paper

The Creative Class; Importance of Economic Development and Planning - Research Paper Example Pondering over the market strategies adopted by this class, the paper also institutes the notions of the creative class namely brain drain and brain gain. In short, the paper, quoting examples, determines the validity of the claim that the creative class is mandatory for economic planning and development. Over the last few centuries, the world has prospered in many ways. The advancement in science and technology is responsible for all the development that has taken place across the globe. However, despite the era of technology and enlightenment, there are certain things that remain the same. One such thing in the social structure of an economy is the class. (Bonanni, 2004) The term ‘class’ is a very interesting one as it is often used to refer to a group of individuals who possess the economic influence and leverage over a certain number of people. Class, still being a part of the social structure, is a huge determinant of economic planning and development. In fact the last decade has seen a lot of theoretical work on the effect of a certain class on the development of a particular market in an economy. In the past decade, most analysts have pondered over the relationship of creativity (more appropriately the creative class) and economic development. (Atkinson, 2009) For most commentators, the explanation of economic development through the concept of creativity is a tired formula which does not really help achieve any appropriate results. (Peck, 2005) For others however, the idea of an economy that is based on skills and services is a creative one, an idea that has affected the ground rules for achieving economic development. This in tur n has affected how many cities and urban centres (that are economic hubs) have sought to manage their economic policies with a special focus on the arts, culture and other place based characteristics in order to make the cities a better place to live

A Comparison between Islamic and Non-Islamic banks and companies in Research Paper

A Comparison between Islamic and Non-Islamic banks and companies in terms - Research Paper Example The key difference of the two banks is that, The Islamic Banking is based on Sharia foundation. And therefore, all its transaction, business approach, investment focus, product feature, responsibility and many more are derived from the Shariah law, this lead to the significant difference in many part of its operations with as that of the conventional banks.Furthermore, the foundation of Islamic bank is based on the Islamic faith and tends to stay just within the within the limits of this Islamic Laws or the Shariah to be specific in all of its operations and decisions. The Arabic word Shariah has means; the way to the source of life Being the first National bank in Qatar, The Qatar national bank was the first bank to launch a financial services subsidiary. The bank then launched the launch of QNB Financial Services in the year 2011. Through this project, the bank has offered a range of financial services to both the domestic and international institutional investors. As it continues to grow, the QNB is determined to place itself as a leading financial institution that is able to use its assets in making positive difference throughout its market ,the bank therefore seems to be the pace setter for the other Banks like the Commercial Bank of Qatar The financial market of Qatar is considered small and hence relies on its regional dimension. The GCC investments contributes on the Qatar Stock Exchange estimated at 62.5 billion ($17 billion) Qatari riyal .Generally the Qatar economy depends on its neighbors when it comes to trade, more specifically Saudi Arabia, in consideration to export and import and also marketing of Qatar products. The Qatar economy really depends on its Gas. The Qatar gas is the worlds largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) company. It produces annually and supplies the globe with over 42 million metric tons of LNG from across its four

Big brother - Assignment Example related to the technology advancement shows that the Americans are being monitored by the companies, and big businesses are through keeping phone-call records, tracking their cars and through the colored printed copies one can get from a shop or office, which is without people’s knowledge and is unethical as these data mining companies do not inform people before hatching their information and data through different sources and later they may use it for making justice acts or planning something hurtful for the person. Such situations become abusive and offending for people who are unaware of their daily life being on record by someone. 3. Even when it comes to protecting one’s information from data-mining and surveillance industries, through the information-technology security one should know that no system is foolproof. One should limit access of any sensitive information, use strong passwords, change and update them regularly. Keeping financial information private would help in a way. These things should be considered while talking on the phone or

Business Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 5

Business Ethics - Essay Example This is geared toward embracing the responsibility of the firm to other issues which could affect the society (Mallin, 2009:16). For example, some firms are engaged in activities which highlight the need for an environment that is free from pollution. The society will take this as an initiative that is created by the corporate to make the world a better place for humanity. There are a number of key elements that are used as approaches to corporate social responsibility. Firms have the right to select a number of these approaches to arrive at a habitable world. These are strategies that are used to attract potential clients that will engage the firm in other businesses. However, some firms that are financially endowed take part in all the approaches of social responsibility. This heightens their supremacy in the market as many people notice their commitment to social welfare (Kotler and Lee, 2011:9). The first approach to social responsibility is the accommodative approach. This appro ach focuses on a number of activities that tend to accommodate everyone in the society. These are collective activities that are geared toward supporting the whole society. Such activities involve shareholders, the community and other neighbouring and relevant entities. Many organisations come up with long-term ventures that are geared towards supporting the community and other entities that are connected to the firm. In this strategy, the firm has to go to huge lengths in ensuring the society and other entities accrue the advantages of such ventures. As earlier mentioned, some firms are geared towards reducing the amount of pollution in the world. As such they have to part with their resources to sponsor all the activities that reduce pollution of a certain kind (Bacher, 2007:13). A succinct example is when the firm pays some of the activities that are indulged in reducing pollution. Some of the activities need some amounts of cash and will need financial assistance. Some firms tak e the responsibility of running such activities at their expense (Mallin, 2009:12). Though they may spend substantial cash, their interests are well fulfilled in the long run. Similarly, when the firms engage in these activities, it is positivity to the stakeholders. Some stakeholders are liable for some of these activities and taking it as their social responsibility lessens their work. For example, some firms pollute the environment and have to make sure they clean such a mess. In taking social responsibility in such activities, the firm fulfils its responsibility by cleaning the environment. The second approach to social responsibility is where managers have to engage in social activities, which is geared towards promotion of other people’s interest. Managers have their ostensible tasks and they should stick to these tasks. However, at some point, the managers tend to accept commitment to social responsibility and perform these tasks. Some of these tasks are demanding and will require a proactive manager. The manager in charge has to ensure all the activities are fully executed and with their corporation. For example, some managers take part in charity activities. Since they are the flag bearers, they have to show their presence in such activities (Kotler and Lee, 2011:17). This creates a scenario where managers have attracted a larger audience to participate in these activities. When the managers are present, it is almost certain that the
